Restoration comes after the punishment. When God is angry he may show it to you personally or He may show an entire nation. He doesn't need your help to display His vengeance or justice. However, once His point has been made He does provide the opportunity for redemption. It is meant to sustain us after His bloody vengeance. It is all about transformation: rising above shame toward God.
God is kind and should be praised, but He is not a pushover. He shows you compassion whether you deserve it or not. He does this because He is the saving God. When you are destressed, He is destressed for you because He genuinely cares about you. He shows His love for you through mercy.
It is when you rebel that you grieve the Holy Spirit. God has shown you who He is over and over. What else does He have to do to get your attention? He can withhold His tenderness and compassion, but would you even notice?
Return to God with all your heart. Only then can He soften it. Allow Him to rule over your heart. Only then will you find peace in your heart. He is mighty and He fights for your heart.
Isaiah 63
