I love Proverbs because is the philosophical book of the Bible. It is known as the Wisdom Book, but I think that is because it makes you think. It doesn't spell things out directly, but gives you enough to dwell on a subject for a while. I will do my best to give this book justice over the next month.
King Solomon, David's son, is the author of Proverbs. He is known as the wisest man that ever lived. He became wise because he humbly went to God and asked for it. He understood that wisdom went hand in hand with discipline and understanding God's Word to be able to apply it as God designed it. Wisdom is having mastery over a subject's knowledge and knowing how to use it.
Biblical wisdom is based on morality. This wisdom requires a prudent life-style. That means that your thoughts and actions are always about what the future will look like from what you do now. It is based on trying to do what is right and just. That is where the philosophy comes in. We have to learn the Bible and prayerfully study it to be able to apply it prudently. Another way to look at is to work out your Christianity.
A wise person has knowledge and knows how to use it with discretion. They use their wisdom to help and teach others in discernment and following instruction. It all starts with fearing God so that you do not fall to temptation. The fear is based on learning how to avoid wasting your life and ending up where you don't want to be. You don't have to live in stress, fear of death, fear of the unknown, or complacency.
Wisdom is available to anyone. It is the most bountiful gift from God other than His love. A wise person knows how to take rebuke from God and when to take it from people. God rebukes His people because He loves us. To ignore God's rebuke would be very unwise and shows a person as a fool. Listen and obey and see your life grow in confidence, safety, and understanding. There is a strong connection the amount of wisdom you have and your relationship with God.
