Have you ever heard the saying: You are a your own worst enemy? I grew up hearing it. It is true. We can be self destructive. We get in our own way to succeed. We trip ourselves up. We allow negativity get in our head. We have the power to destroy all the good God has done in our lives. It takes self-awareness, self-discipline, and prayer to overcome the self-destructive path.
When you feel like you are trapped, see the self-destruction, or just feel needy the best place to go is God. Cry out to Him with a sense of urgency. Don't think too much about it, but let your prayers lead the way. What you pray may reveal things of your heart. Once you see any hidden sin of the heart ask God to protect your heart from that corruption.
Pray for is protection from our mouths. It will reveal any hidden heart condition. Even the most self-controlled can find that they have issues with talking too much, not enough, or even gossip occasionally. We have to guard our mouth, so that it is not drawn to evil. It is evil when we allow our mouth to hurt other people.
When you pray for protection, you also have to be open for the discipline or rebuke that may come with it. God corrects us for our own good. It is easier to discipline yourself, but we all have blind spots. God had to reveal them to us for us to be able to live life to the fullest. In the beginning you may feel like you have been plowed over, but when you come through you will be stronger.
