Staying Awake

I don't know about you, but I need sleep.  I need at least six hours to be functional.  I do better with a good eight hours.  I find myself envious of the people that function normally with only four hours a night.  Think of how much more I could get accomplished, but I do okay with eight hours.  Maybe if I had a fixed schedule, I would need less sleep, but my days are different every day.
Another person that did not have a solid routine was Paul.  He traveled randomly at times.  He always had a purpose and was driven to serve God, but he didn't always know exactly where he was going when he left a place.  When he arrived, he would stay up late talking to people.  He comes accross like the energizer bunny, never getting tired.
One night he was preaching well into the night.  Somewhere around midnight, a young man much like myself, fell asleep while Paul was speaking.  He was sitting on the window seal on the third floor, so when he fell asleep he actually fell and died upon impact.  Paul must have witnessed it happen because he rushed down to the man, put his arms around him, and revived him.
The crowd that witnessed this all went back upstairs to finish the sermon until sunrise.  Everyone had faith, so they found comfort in the experience.  When we have faith, then we don't have to worry about what will happen to us when we sleep.  We can do good with whatever time we have while we are awake.

Acts 20:1-12
