Teacher of God's Word

Preachers, Pastors, and Reverends live very differently from how the Levites lived.  There is nothing wrong with how they live as long as they do it as a calling or service to God.  Their lving situations change with the times and culture just like our lives do.  However, there is a difference between service to God and viewing God's work as a business.  Some will be blessed financially and some will live humbly.  We should not judge either way.  God has a purpose for each of His teachers of the law and salvation.
Moses and Aaron wrote out the expectations of the Levites.  This included duties, tradition, and living situation.  It was up to Joshua and Eleazar to uphold what was laid out.  Eleazar was the chief priest, the priest over all priest.
Together they went to the heads of the tribes to discuss the land that the Levites would call home.  They had homes that were stable, but the land itself was never theirs.  They got cities to live in, so they were not nomads. They got pastures so that they could care for animals.
Each tribe contributed land, but each tribe got to chose what land that the Levites would receive.  Not many pastors today would ask the church about how they would live, where, or anything remotely along those lines.  Today, Pastors tell the church who they are, what they believe, and where they will live.  It is more like take it or leave it situation.
The Levites received 48 towns and pastureland.   They were responsible for the Cities of Refuge too.  Once they had homes and were settled it could be seen how God's commands had been fulfilled.  They too got a time of rest.  Everyone got a period of peace.
