A leader that follows God displays strong leadership quality. It takes a humble person to be able to lead a great number of people. It takes a person that knows how to receive instruction and criticism to be able to lead well. God is the ultimate leader, so following Him will only make a person better leader.
King Amaziah was 25 when he became king. He reigned 29 years following God, but not with his whole heart. He did a good job cleaning house and taking care of those that killed his father.
Amaziah discovered that he had a powerful army if he hired the Israelites, but God told him not to use them. If he did, then Ephraim would win. He chose to dismiss the Israelite to follow God even though he lost all the money he had invested into the Israelite army.
The Israelite army returned home angry raiding Judah's towns. Judah won their battle against Ephraim, but something happened to distract Amaziah into thinking God was not always there. He brought home idols and began to worship foreign gods.
This outraged the only Living God. God handed Amaziah over to King Jehoash of Israel. Jehoash destroyed Jerusalem's walls leaving the once great city vulnerable to any raiders. In return King Amaziah was killed by his own men.
