Influencing Leaders

We all have influence in this world.  The question that we need to ask ourselves is how are we going to use that?  Also, we need to figure out what our influence is and whom it affects.  Even the people that feel like they are being silenced or have no voice leave an impression on someone.
When King Jehoshaphat died his son, Jehoram became king of Judah.  He was the firstborn, so he was the most logical choice.  However, he felt insecurity about his position, so he killed all his brothers and some of Israel's princes too.  Not a great way to ensure a leadership position.  It would leave the people feeling unsafe.
Jehoram was 32 when he became king, but since he was such a bad king he only got to reign for eight years.  He was married to Ahab's daughter.  She had a lot of influence over him and her influence led to evil.  His entire reign was tainted by evil in God's eyes.  The only reason God did not destroy him was because of the promise He had made David.  But, God was not about to allow evil to rule.  He brought up Edom to rebel against Judah.
God had the prophet Elijah write King Jehoram.  The letter informed the king that for all the evil he had done to his own family, that the remaining family would be hit with a heavy blow.  It began when the Philistines and Arabs attacked taking his wealth, wives, and sons away from him.  Only his youngest Ahaziah remained.
After all that Jehoram was struck with an intestinal disease that eventually killed him, after two years, in a very painful way.  When Jehoram died, he had no one to mourn him.  He was not even buried with his family.  That is a huge insult to a king.
We are all influencers, but we are all influenced too.  Be careful on whom you allow in your life.  It doesn't matter how strong you are, the people in your life good and bad will influence who you are and who you will become.
