Job had finished his closing argument. Now it was for the prosecution's turn for their closing argument. We have the impassioned Elihu to represent the prosecution lawyer's closing argument. The three friends had not been convinced and were washing their hands of Job since they considered him self-righteous. Elihu however was going to make his passion is made clear.
Elihu believed that Job was justifying himself instead of God. He concluded that Job was in fact insulting God and had no defense. He was angry with the three friends for their accusations. They could not refute Job's innocence, but convicted him anyway.
He had held his tongue because everyone else there was his elder. Youth was the age to be observers and learn from their elders. They traditionally did not speak up, but to insult God was more than Elihu could handle.
Elihu represented the wisdom of youth that God gives. Each age has it's gifts and youth is a time of passion and instinct. He had quietly listened to each of the four speak in silence and they had not gotten anywhere. He was bursting at the seems to speak and could no longer hold his tongue.
Elihu spoke his mind clearly, rationally, and without partiality. He did not flatter anyone because that would not honor God. His closing argument was to take out everything that was not honoring to God and discard of it.
