As we are entering into the Thanksgiving Holiday, it is a good time to get into the attituded of thankfulness and gratitude. The Psalms can be a good place to go to get into that head space, but what about the heart? We live in a world that is right now and don't you dare make me wait. It is about what serves my needs and desire and how dare anyone get in the way. How can we change the heart to focus on being thankful for what we have?
A thankful heart praises God in the good times and the bad. When we are forced to wait, we can turn to prayer instead of frustration. We can train our heart to sing love and faithfulness to God to take our focus off ourselves for a few minutes. Practice that daily and the next thing you know your heart has changed. You may discover you care about other people's needs above your own desires.
A thankful heart calls out to God when in need and knows that He will respond in His time. It gives waiting and patience meaning. You know that He is constant in His love and He is the source of truth. You can pray more boldly because you trust Him more and more as He gives you strength when you need it. You discover that your heart has been humbled and you can move closer to God without hesitation.
You begin to pray His promises back to Him as a reminder. You may be reminding Him, but really you are just cherishing His Word in your heart and it pours out of your mouth. God will preserve you. He will never abandon you. He is always there. How can we walk away? The bolder you walk toward God, the less you have to fear in life. You understand that His love endures forever and that love is Chesed,
Psalm 138
