Adultery

Hosea's heart was broken not knowing if his children were his biological children.  Yet, he loved them.  His wife hurt him, but he loved her.   That doesn't mean that he had to keep his mouth shut.  He rebuked her behavior.  If she did not repent her sin of adultery, then he was ready to expose her.
God is using Hosea's life to speak His message to His people.  He loves His people, but if we do not repent our sins, then we receive indictment (charged with a serious crime).  That means we are found guilty even if we don't think we are.  Hosea rebuked his wife, but God rebuked the leaders because idolatry is adultery against God.
Gomer was an adulterous woman that thought there would never be an consequences.  There are always consequences.  He path was blocked as she faced her shame of exposure.  She faced rejection.
Hosea was a good husband that did not deserve what happened to him.  She saw him as a push over, so she assumed he would be there when she was ready to go back.  She was not too happy when he took all he had given her away.  Then to learn that no one was there to rescue her.
Gomer was selfish.  She thought she deserved gifts for her affection and time.  She thought she had power over men.  She expected gifts, not only from her husband, but her lovers too.  She never thought what she was doing was wrong.  However, when she was punished reality hit her hard.  She represented the nation of Israel.  God's people keep sinning like there will be no consequences, but we are held at a higher standard.
After some time, Hosea persuaded Gomer away from her lifestyle.  He forgave her and spoke tenderly to her.  He brought her back home.  Once her lovers were forgotten, it was like the days of their youthful marriage.  A new covenant was formed.  The marriage was strengthened to endure.  Hosea was righteous, just, loving, and compassionate with Gomer.  He was always faithful.
Like Hosea, God forgave his people and brought them close to Him again.  He treated them as He always had, but it had new meaning.  He shows us compassion.  He declared He is our God.  He offers salvation gently.  It is not forced, but if you accept, then you get to be embraced in His loving arms.  You find peace in your heart in a secure eternity.
