The rainbow is a testimony of power, beauty, mercy, and grace. It is a reminder of Noah's faithful journey with God. It was not easy, but he followed God no matter what. The rainbow represents the everlasting covenant that God made with Noah to endure.
The flood was the first time the earth ever had rain. The rain destroyed all life except for what was in one boat. Rain had an everlasting impact on people after that. It mostly brings a sense of refreshment now, but it can still cause horrific events like flash floods. It can influence massive flooding, but it does not consume the world anymore.
The rainbow recognizes that something so small, beautiful, and majestic can cause devasting natural events. It is a reminder that we need to appreciate God and change to be more like him. The rainbow is a reaction to water in the atmosphere that triggers our memory to respect the power of God.
After Noah and his family were back on solid ground and let all the animals loose, they had to deal with the trauma that this worldwide natural disaster brought into their lives. When you follow God, you have support, supernatural strength, or anything else that you need, but you also have to walk through it. That can leave some trauma: survivors guilt, depression, overwhelming sense of loss, and more. You are not immune to trauma just because you follow God. You just have supernatural help to get you through it. Your life changed and now you have to find a new normal.
The rainbow is a display that states God is in control. He makes a promise and it will happen. It is a promise that anyone can see if you look up after the storm. The rainbow is misunderstood by so many, but it is a holy symbol of hope. It tells you that God is taking care of you.
Noah's story is personal and about perseverance. In the ark, there was unity to survive. The rainbow is the symbol of hope after you worked so hard to survive. He had a lot of ups and downs in his life, but he never abandoned God. God gave him the strength that he needed to persevere and He gave God the glory for that.
