Prayer is vitally important part of life. It holds the power of the Holy Spirit. It opens the door of faith to see miracles. It is how we communicate with God and discover things about ourselves. When you are surrounded by people that don't believe or a pagan culture it becomes your lifeline.
Prayer is more than a ritual that you perform on the Sabbath or Sunday depending on the denomination. It is something sacred that needs to be preserved anywhere you go. When you are at home you need your private place to spend time with the Lord. That is easy for most people. It is when you leave and you are traveling that it become difficult.
The missionaries that went to the Roman Colony of Philippi were looking for a place to pray. They came across a woman named Lydia. She was a wealthy business woman, but more importantly she was worshipping God.
The searching for a place of solitude to pray can be used to reach other people. Lydia was a woman that probably believed she had everything she needed. That introduction let her heart receive what it was craving most. We all have different lifestyles, but God can use every person. (Acts 16:11-15)
11 "From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, the next day to Neapolis, 12 and from there to Philippi, a Roman colony and a leading city of the district of Macedonia. We stayed in that city for several days. 13 On the Sabbath day we went outside the city gate by the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and spoke to the women gathered there. 14 A God-fearing woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, was listening. The Lord opened her heart to respond to what Paul was saying. 15 After she and her household were baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us." Acts 16:11-15 (CSB)
