Recieving the Holy Spirit

A lot of people have questions about the Holy Spirit.  He seems to be a big mystery because He does not make Himself known in a big dramatic way.  He is the aspect of God that is gentle, constant, and leads you true.  When you confess your faith and sins to God, then you make room in your soul for the Holy Spirit.  When you are saved, He moves in.
When Christianity began, this was a new concept.  The Holy Spirit never resided in people.  He came and went according to how the people followed the laws of God.  When Gentiles became Christians, they did not even know who the Holy Spirit was.
It is believed upon baptism that you go down into the water to wash away your past sins and rise clean.  When you rise the Holy Spirit indwells in you giving you spiritual gifts.  That is why John the Baptist baptism versus Jesus' baptism need to be understood.  John's introduced repentance.  His baptism was the first step.  He died before ever seeing Jesus fulfill His purpose to introduce the real baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Paul spent three months in Ephesus explaining the truth and making new disciples.  It takes time for some people to understand and make a choice. However, some will never chose to believe. Some will chose to argue against God.  You can't change people.  Pray and do your part, then let them go for the Holy Spirit to deal with them.
Anything in the spiritual realm is not to be trifled with.  It is not a game.  Take the time to learn about it  before ever facing it head on.  Otherwise, you could get in over your head and it can have life altering consequences, like for the seven sons of Sceva.  Faith is more important than education.  Trust the Holy Spirit to direct you through that dangerous world.
Acts 19:1-22
