When we encounter God it changes our lives forever. Most people do not have a dramatic story like Saul. Most of us meet Him in our everyday life, in a moment that would be ordinary to everyone else who was there.
God chose Saul as the church's warrior. Saul thought he was serving God by persecuting the church as if they were heretics. The fact is that his acts were murderous. We all fight against God until we encounter Him in a personal way. We are so blessed that He chose to reach out to us.
Saul hunted the church. He was on his way to Damascus, to take all the "Followers of the Way" as prisoners, when he was engulfed in light. Inside that light, Jesus spoke to Him. The men that followed him saw the light and heard a voice. When the moment was over, Saul was blind.
He got to Damascus and could not eat for three days while God worked on Ananias to be brave enough to go help his persecutor. That three days was not wasted. God worked on Saul's heart and prepared him to take up the life that he himself had been attacking. When Ananias arrived, Saul got back his sight. Saul was baptized and became Paul. With the new name he began his new journey for God. ( Acts 9:1-19)
3" As he traveled and was nearing Damascus, a light from heaven suddenly flashed around him. 4 Falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”
5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul said.
“I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting,” he replied. 6 “But get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do."
Acts 9:3-6 (CSB)
