We all know what it is like when a leader leaves and a new one replaces him or her. The time of transition means different things for different people. It can be a time of grace as you allow the new leader to figure things out and find their way to lead. It can be a time of frustration as they can come in and change everything. This change is not always the good change. It can be a time for opportunist. You know the people that try to influence the leader to do things as they want them done.
Paul was sitting comfortably in prison as one person that had the "power" to decide his fate left and a new leader stepped in. The new Governor Festus saw the Jews in Jerusalem. They saw it as a new opportunity to get their desire, Paul dead. Festus was with them for several days before going to convene court in Caesarea.
God is stronger than any intimidating leader whom may appear to have all the power. God had Paul, so He did not let any of the charges brought against Paul stick. Festus was a politician. He looked at the Jews number and influence, so he wanted to give them something. He asked Paul to go to Jerusalem to face trial. Paul was not a man that would be intimidated, so he just stated that he was where he was meant to be. If Festus did not agree, then he could send Paul to Caesar. Festus did not argue, but had him appeal to Caesar.
God rewards our confidence in Him. He expects us to speak boldly to display that confidence. We are not all like Paul. It can be very difficult for some, but even the most timid can find ways to display their trust. It doesn't matter who the leaders of this world are. Live a righteous life and trust God to take care of you.
Acts 25:1-12
