When you are defending yourself, what type of argument do you make? Do you lie to make yourself look good? Do you shift the truth to shape it the way you want it to appear? Are you completely honest? I believe honesty, even when it doesn't make you look the best, is the way to go. It does not mean that you have to take whatever people throw at you. It just means that you use your education and wisdom to speak clearly about events and the purpose behind them.
When Paul was defending himself in Jerusalem, he had been warned that it was coming. I believe mentally and emotionally he was prepared. He gave his defense in Aramaic using his education to use the best way to connect with the politicians. Paul had been beaten, so he was in pain. Yet, he mustered us a passionate defense beginning with his origin story. He used it connect with them on why he understood where they were coming from and trying to get them to where he was in the trial. We can do the same when we are giving our testimony. Out testimony is nothing more than our story and how God has changed us. We determine how far back we go in our history according to our audience. It can be recent or all the way back to our origins. Giving our testimony can be a defense or just a conversation with one person. We all have to start somewhere.
Acts 22:1-21
