To get arrested is something horrific to many people. To others it is a way of life. It impacts each person differently. The idea of being arrested is a hit to pride because what will people think. Many people claim to not care, but we all care about what one person thinks of us, whether it is our parents, spouse, children, church, or friends.
Paul did not care if he was arrested because the people he invested his life into understood why he was being arrested. To be arrested for what you believe in is probably scary to a certain level, but it also show everyone watching how much you truly believe in what you are doing. Today in some countries, you get arrested for attending church. That is meant to scare Christians into hiding. However, all it does is make them stronger.
Paul did nothing wrong to be arrested. His confidence scared other people. People don't like it when their authority is challenged. Peter had no problem making them face their fears. In response they made claims that he was teaching lies to confuse people. These claims led people to believe that he was trying to defile God's house.
When people get worked up, they get dangerous. A group of people swarmed Paul and tried to kill him. It caused such a ruckus that the Roman Commander had to get involved. The Roman Commander arrested Paul in chains because he thought Paul was a terrorist. He was wounded so badly, that he had to be carried. I don't really understand why the chains were needed, unless they thought he was faking it. Yet, Paul still wanted to address the people.
Acts 21:27-40
