It is important to learn how to communicate to all types of personalities, cultures, or people different from yourself. How can you expect to be heard, if you are not willing to listen? If it is important for the average person, just image how important it is for the leaders. Their ability to be able to communicate affects many people, not just them.
When Paul arrived to Jerusalem, he rested the night in fellowship with other believers. However, in the morning, he went to visit James and the elders to give a report of his work. The report was over how God was working among the Gentiles. He told them about the zealous work of the believing Jews.
The report was vital because there were rumors that he was teaching the believers to walk away from the law of Moses. It all came from him disputing the need for circumcision amongst those whom were not raised in that culture. In response to this, Paul went to four men whom had made a vow of purification. He paid for them to get their heads shaved. This would prove to all the gossips that he still followed the law of Moses (the law of God).
This probably sounds weird to us, but it was a cultural way of communicating to a vast number of people in a short amount of time. Our culture allows us to communicate via email, facebook, twitter, Instagram, tumblr, blogger, and more. We have stopped communicating through action as much as the spontaneous acts.
Acts 21: 17-26
