Control

The people that dictate what is clean or unclean are really having a battle over who is in control.  The Pharisees, law givers, and educators of God's Word believed they knew what was best.  The believed they knew God's Word better than anyone.  That is probably true, but they did not practice what they preached.  When Jesus arrived everything changed.  It was revealed that He had true control.
Jesus tries to instill that tradition will not get you any closer to your goal for eternity.  Tradition actually fighting for control over God.  God does not care what we eat or drink.  He gave us the laws to keep people healthy more than display His control.  His laws are meant to give you freedom.
Jesus looks at the heart, not the deed.  Every heart has evil thoughts.  It only matters if we feed those thoughts to produce evil action or if we give them to Him and never return to them.  Jesus came to us because we were lost sheep roaming the world hurting ourselves.  He gave us understanding that comes through faith, so we can live better.  He will never send us away without providing for our needs unless we refuse to take His mercy.
He is in control, but we keep trying to take it from Him.  He will allow us for a short while, so that we can see the mess we will make of things without Him.  People who continue to fight for control are revealing foolish characteristics.  Time reveals all things.
