Gabriel

Do you realize that almost no angel is ever named.  Gabriel is one of few and mentioned more than once.  He was very hands on with Jesus' entering the world as a human.  He began with Zechariah, then he went to Mary.  He was the angel that informed Mary that her entire life was changing.  He explained everything important to her, so she would not be afraid.  I am not so sure that would have helped me.
After Gabriel gave Mary her new, he proceeded to tell her about her cousin, Elizabeth.  It also proved that nothing is impossible with God.  Mary then did the unimaginable.  She accepted what was about to occur and rushed to Elizabeth.  I imagine they both found great comfort in each other.  This is when Gabriel leaves the story.  He did his part and left.  He did not stick around for attention or to be told good job by God.  He went back to His existence.
When Mary got to Elizabeth, John jumped in her womb.  Everything seemed to fall into place because the Holy Spirit was with them.  They show that the humble are blessed when the proud are scattered.  The women enjoyed each others company for about three months before Mary needed to return home.
