We all know that John was a great prophet and the cousin of Jesus that prepared the path for Him. What most don't stop to think about is that he was a person too. He had feelings. He was loved and cherished by his parent.
John was brought up the ideal Jewish boy. His parents did everything right according to the laws of God. The only surprise was his name. There were no Johns in their family line. Back then they kept the first born sons name usually the same as the father to honor him. After a while though, everyone saw that God's hand was in it.
Once John was born his father was able to speak again. The Holy Spirit gave him a prophesy that God was going to redeem (save) His people. His son was going to the prophet. John grew up knowing this. He was humble, but I am sure that it was nice to have everyone respect you and to know you are beloved to your parents and God. As he grew, he became strong in the Spirit. He staying in the wilderness until his public appearance in Israel. He stayed on track.
Luke 1: 57-80
