Curse of Idols

It is October, the month of facing what is scary.  Curses are scary.  What makes them scary is that it can my a small, split second decision that turns your life upside down.  Life is more than a game.  Your life does not need to be gambled away.
After Gideon, God was having a hard time finding people of moral character to lead His people.  The next judge was Micah.  He stole his mother's silver..  His mother cursed the silver, so it cursed whomever took it.  He did not see anything wrong with what he did, but he confessed once he heard about the curse.  The crazy thing is that she rewarded him by using some of that silver to make an idol for him.
This was a time when people did whatever felt right to them.  They had forgotten all about God's standards.  No one was answering to anyone else as long as they were being "good people".
A young Levite came to Micah's town to stay.  Micah had him stay with him and treated him like a son.  However, it was not because he cared or had a sense of duty.  He did it to buy God's love.  He wanted to ensure that he was not cursed.
God can't be bought, manipulated, or tricked.  It is good to do good deed, but it is better when it is done with the right perspective or attitude.  All things should be done out of love.
I get that we get tired and that not everything will be done out of love all the time.  We are human, we run dry sometimes, but we can keep the heart motivation toward our deeds.  That said, God can still use wrong motives to get His message across.
