Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis is a fundamental change of form, structure, content that affects the appearance, character, or circumstances.  When I think of the word metamorphosis, I think of a butterfly.  A caterpillar finds a spot and forms a protective cocoon a around itself.  That cocoon is warm and safe until it becomes like a prison and the caterpillar has to escape or die.  However, once it escapes it is a beautiful butterfly.
People go through the same thing.  They may or may not know what is coming, but to grow and become the person of full potential, we all have to go through things that feel like it could kill us.  When we finally get to other side, the people around us see a new person.  You may not see it, so find a mirror and take a good look.
David ran to Ahimelech to get himself organized, food, and rest.  He was given consecrated bread to eat, even though they did not know that he had been anointed as the new king.  Ahimelech just knew he needed it.  Only the spiritually clean were allowed to touch the bread.  David and his men came up rested.  However, Doeg, Saul's Chief Shephard was there, so they needed to leave.
David was looking for a weapon to protect himself.  Ironically all the priest had was Goliath's sword.  It seems like things had made a full circle.  This was the beginning of David's metamorphosis that would take years before he became the king that the nation needed.
Once David was organized he went to the land of King Achish in Gath.  The people recognized him because he was a celebrity of sorts.  He was well known for his musical abilities.  He was afraid that he would be killed, so be began to act like he was insane.  He was so good at it, that he was sent away unharmed.  God was wrapping him in His cocoon.

1 Samuel 21
