Show Honor

How do you show honor?  When honoring another person, it can take you out of your comfort zone.  You may have to get up in front of people to give a speech.  You may have to take time out of your life to do a project.  You may have to give up some money.  There are many different ways to honor a person, but it has to be about that person.  It is not about our personal desire or comfort.
David wanted to show kindness to the people left Saul's family.  He was established as the king and no one could take that from him.  David wanted to honor his friendship with Jonathan.  David spoke with Ziba, a servant from Saul's household.  Ziba told him that Jonathan's crippled son, Mephibosheth, was still alive.  David sent for him at once.
Mephibosheth displayed honor to David by kneeling before the king.  He was a young man now, but probably still afraid for his life.  He may never have known about the friendship that his father and David had had.  David told him not to be afraid.  David honored him by restoring Saul's fields to him.  David gave Mephibosheth a seat at his table always.
David made Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth.  Ziba with his 15 sons and 20 servants of his own were to care for Mephibosheth's household and make it profitable.  Mephibosheth had a son named Mica.  They would no longer have to live in fear or doubt.  They now had leisure and a financially independent household.  In honoring Jonathan's son, David blessed all of them.  To honor a person is to bless their lives.

2 Samuel 9
