Have you ever sensed a split of a group, organization, or church was in the making? Have you ever felt the tension and not know what to do to fix things. It is a very discouraging experience. Now add that feeling to a nation that is being split. We have all seen what has happened throughout history in books, tales, and the Bible. It is never pretty.
King Rehoboam led his people away from God. He was a selfish king. He did not learn from his family history. The consequences of the sins of Solomon who wondered away from God in his later years laid upon his shoulders, but he had choices. God could have held back a little longer if he had chosen to draw close instead of pull away.
God did not want a person to lead His people astray, so He allowed Rehoboam to be taken away to Egypt. Consequently, Jerusalem was captured. This led to Judah, Benjaminites, and Levites to be humbled. They were the only ones that stayed loyal to David's bloodline. Their humility gave them deliverance.
King Rehoboam was a bad king, a bad leader. He cost his nation peace. He cost himself and his nation Solomon's wealth. He lived to be 58 and will be forever remembered for his selfish heart. His leadership divided a nation and left both parts more vulnerable for attach. His choices lost his nation peace.
