God's house is presumed to be a church, temple, or sanctuary. It is all of that, but so much more. If you are a Christian, then your home is God's house. Your body is God's temple. That means that the way you treat other places, manage your home, and treat your body does matter.
How you treat people and things is something that develops over the years. David was one of the best leaders that ever lived, but it didn't happen over night. He made a lot of mistakes along the way and learned from every aspect of his life. He had blood on his hands to make his nation safe, but that very blood kept him from being able to do something he really wanted to do. It kept him from being allowed to build God's home.
David knew that was a dream that he would not be able to fulfill by himself, so he prepared Solomon to be able to succeed for him. It takes time to build anything worth having or that will be strong. Solomon was young and inexperienced but he understood and was teachable. David organized the people, plans, and materials to prepare for the temple. One of the longest and hardest parts is the foundation.
David focused on the lavish preparation, so that when Solomon did build he could enjoy the process. He gave Solomon the gift of a life of peace and quiet. Solomon was able to focus on his relationship with God and to build because David's preparations ensured that he would succeed. David prayed blessings over his son to be a good king.
David had God's house in his heart. He never got to see God's house on earth with his eyes, but he did get to see it in Heaven. David was prepared for death.
Things may not look the way we want them, but what are you doing to change that? We may have to let go of things in life, but how are you letting that affect you? Our relationship with God is what matters. If you are able to let Him in every aspect of your life, then you are building Him a home. In return, just image the home He is preparing for you when you join Him.
