A Leader That Does Not Follow God

When a leader choses to do their own thing, then they are putting themselves above the people they are supposed to be protecting, serving, and directing.  They may come across as a good leader, but people will get hurt along the way.  Whenever we do what is right in our own eyes, there is a good chance that it is not the best choice.
Ahaz became King of Judah when Jotham died.  He was 20 and only reigned 16 years.  That means he was 36 when he died.  That is too young.
King Ahaz reigned in the way he wanted.  He abandoned God and went so far that he sacrificed his children to pagan gods.  This is the type of leadership that makes God angry.  To sacrifice a human is beyond wrong.  God turned him over to Israel to desolated.  The more things turned against Ahaz, the more he walked away from God.
Ahaz's choices hurt his people.  His leadership told them that it was okay to do whatever you want and it doesn't matter who you hurt in the process.  Since Judah was God's people, He did not abandon them completely.  He didn't let them become slaves and let them return to Samaria.
King Ahaz was attacked by everyone and had no one to turn to in his time of crisis.  This is what happens when you burn all your bridges with the people in your life.  God did turn his face away from Ahaz.  His people would not even bury him in the royal tombs.
