Pride Humilated

Esther was risking everything including her life for her nation, but she was trying to do it in the right way.  She sought God's guidance.  In the end, He fought the hard parts for her.  While she was praying, strategizing, and seeking God, He was working in the ways that she could not see.
The night after the banquet the king went to bed in good spirits, but sleep would not come to him.  Since he could not rest, he ordered his personal assistant to read the chronicles of his reign to him.  It is a good way to see where you did a good job and where you can do better next time.  However, he should have read it himself, so his servants could get some sleep.  Just because he could not sleep doesn't mean that others should have it taken away.
The reading reminded him about how Mordecai saved his life.  He realized how he never acknowledge it or rewarded the man.  God was using a sleepless night to put things into action.  On top of that, the king knew that Mordecai was a Jew.  He was going to honor a Jew, yet he had given Haman the permission to hunt them down. Xerxes comes across fickle.
In the morning Haman came with his plan to erect the gallows for Mordecai.  Xerxes asked to see him.  The king asked Haman how he could honor a person.  Haman assumed that the king was talking about him, so he described what he would like.  Once he gave his answer, he discovered that he would be in charge of doing that for Mordecai.  Bam, his pride was hit hard.
Mordecai went to the King's gate like he did everyday, but today he was being honored.  After Haman had to lower himself to honor his perceived nemesis, he went home to sulk.  Haman grieved over his perception that Mordecai's very existence was to ruin his life.  However, he could not stay in that state long because he had to go to Queen Esther's dinner.
