There are times in life where a person has to risk everything that they care about including their lives to do the right thing. It is not easy. Superheroes make it look like anyone could do it, but in reality not that many people are willing to live life that way. However, if you are not willing to risk anything, then you will not gain anything. This risky business makes a person a real hero. Esther was one of these people.
After Haman's trying day he went home to vent and sulk, but then he had to get his act together to go to Queen Esther's dinner. Soon it would be the worst day of his life. His pride was about to be hit hard in a way that he would not recover.
The King was in a good mood. He had done something nice, spending quality time with his wife, and had good drink and food. It appeared to be the perfect night. He was in a generous mood.
Everything was relaxed and peaceful, so this was when Esther finally did what she had been building up to do. She asked Xerxes to spare her life and the lives of her people in a very humble format. This confused the king since he did not know her heritage. This is when Esther called out Haman highlighting him as the villian of the story.
Xerxes became angry and walked away probably to gather his thoughts. The tension was in the air, Esther and Haman were probably both holding their breath since neither had no idea if he was angry Esther for "lying", Haman for being manipulative, or both.
Haman went to Esther begging for his life in a desperate way. The king must have been returning because what he saw was the appearance of Haman trying to overtake Esther. He was already angry, but this was too much. He ordered Haman to be hung on the gallows that he had built for Mordecai that moment.
Hateful people may seem like they are getting everything that they want, but eventually it will catch up to them. It will never be as we envision or maybe desire, but God's way is always better than any type of vengeance we could come up with. Haman's hanging was justified by the human perspective, but it did not change anything. The death sentence was still on the Jews. Esther's job was not done yet.
