Priest as Leaders

Priest, Pastors, Preachers, whatever you call them are leaders within a community.  Today, society likes to keep the church completely separate from politics: government, school, and everything in between.  However, the world just does not function well that way.  It leaves a lot of holes and confusion on certain subjects and areas.  We should not force religion down people's throat, but we should not have to hide that part of ourselves either.
Nehemiah became the governor of Jerusalem and the first leaders that he acknowledged were the Levites and priest.  The one that stood out from the others was Ezra because of his education and leadership abilities.  Plus he was a scribe which was a vital role to keep history honest and accurate.
Once the leaders were established they decided to dedicate the wall of Jerusalem to God.  National walls are a sensitive subject, but back then they were a part of survival.  They wanted to honor God for giving them safety.  It was very well organized to keep it festive.
The dedication turned into a celebration.  The Jews knew how to honor God, work, and how to live life with balance.  Without balance people will burn out.  We can't work all the time.  We can't party all the time.  We can't have all good without a little discomfort occasionally.  We should not be uncomfortable in life all the time either.  Life needs to be balanced. It is one of the jobs of the spiritual leaders to teach balance.
