To have a righteous heart is to live a life pursuing a sound relationship with God. It is rooted in a covenant with God based on salvation. You have faith and believe what the Bible says and He guarantees that your soul will not have eternal death. The result is living a life of gratitude, praise, and glory to Him.
Salvation is only the beginning. The heart is changed. From there your life shows the world how much you have been changed. The words you speak should speak the love of God. Your heart belongs to Him like a bonded servant. You live a life of sacrifice, but with joy.
A righteous heart seeks God daily. Other people should be able to see the Holy Spirit in you. He is all that is good in life. Everything right and good in the world goes back to Him. He is patient with us as He listens to our fears and anxieties. He is like the good parent comforting the upset child after a nightmare.
A righteous heart chooses to turn from evil even when it is actively trying to make you trip. You may stumble occasionally, but that does not mean that you have lost your righteous heart. God heals the broken heart and makes it strong. It feels wrong, but we have to be more open and not close up the heart. We can't try to protect our heart from being hurt. Instead we have to trust that God will take care of it.
Psalm 34
