Wisdom Passed Down

We know that Solomon wrote Proverbs and was the wisest man that ever lived.  Most of his wisdom was given from God, but he also learned from a past king and an oracle named Agur.  He saw their wisdom needed to be recorded for generations to come.  This section is more of a story about wisdom than a proverb teaching wisdom.
Agur claimed to be ignorant and without understanding.  He did not know wisdom or know the Holy Spirit.  However, he did want to know God.   Where should he start?  He began with God's written Word.  He acknowledged that God's Word was flawless.
Agur understood enough to know not to add to God's Word.  After all why add to perfection.  He used that knowledge and the guidance of God's Word to teach himself to pray.  He prayed that God would keep lies from him, so that he could see God clearly.  He did not ask to be rich, but for God to provide what he needed when he needed it.  He did not want to rely on things and forget where they came from.
Agur understood not to cheat, slander, and about death's hunger for souls.  He became aware of adulterous characteristics because they are wrong.  He wanted to understand love and the consequences if not treated right.
Agur watched the ants to learn wisdom.  Ants are not strong, but work together to make things happen and are always preparing.  He watched the coneys and learned that they are weak, but know how to make a home.  He learned that the locust don't have a leader, but yet they work in ranks.  The lizard taught him about how to get anywhere without worrying about social classes.
Agur without realizing it was learning wisdom.  He was able to recognize that the fool will exalt himself and ignore his family.  The fool plans evil, smothers other people's voices, and stirs up anger and strife.  He knew that he no longer wanted to be in that category.  He did well in teaching himself wisdom and enabled us to be able to do the same.
