Prophecy Against Nations

Damascus was the next nation that Isaiah saw in his vision.  It is really a city, but it faced ruin.  It would disappear the day that Jacob's glory faded away.  The land would be reaped to the point that only a fragment of beauty would remain.  It happened when it was under the control of Assyria.
Israel was judged because God's people had forgotten who God is.  They had forgotten who gave them their strength.  God used the prophecies to get their attention.  Fulfilling the prophecies showed them how much their work was meaningless without Him.  Seeing it made it where they turned to Him.  Their goals had not aligned with His purpose for them, so the goals had no real future.  Life with out Him is painful.
The next vision was the judgment of all nations.  When people don't get their way in life, they become outraged.  It doesn't occur to them to go to God with their desires because then they may have to change and they want God to work around their desires not vise versa.  We need to stop to ask God what He wants for us.  Do that and obey to avoid judgment.
When He rebukes people flee to live meaningless lives that see and experience terror.  When all they had to do is accept and introspect on why it happened, so that they can live differently.  Instead, so many wait until the end of their life to look at what they really have.  Their possessions will be taken by other people and they will be forgotten in time.  So what does the life consist of?  Purpose and meaning come from God.

Isaiah 17
