Isaiah got a vision of what would happen to Egypt while everyone else in the area faced judgment. Egypt had many gods, but the Living God of the Jews scared them. They didn't have faith, but they remembered enough of Moses and the plagues to have a healthy fear of His power. God used their fear and turned it into civil war. This is how He judged them.
Egypt had plans, but God made sure that nothing came of them. They turned to idols, spirits, and ghost to make since of their lives. All that made them rich began to disappear as the wars persisted. As the Nile river dried up, so did their income. All that remained was a retched smell. All their words meant nothing. God went so far as to give them the sickness of dizziness. They walked around like they were drunk, but they were sober. They had no way of protecting themselves.
The Egyptians had every reason to be terrified. God was making Himself known to them. Yes it was scary and in some ways horrible, but the results were worth it. They wanted the oppression and suffering to end, so they swore allegiance to God. That is when God became their defender and brought healing. The Egyptians, like the Assyrians, began worshipped and pay tribute to God. God's relationship with the Jews blessed other nations too.
God had removed all distractions for them to see clearly. He had to destroy their world, so that they would understand that idols are just that, idol things. Sometimes He still has to turn our worlds upside down, so that we can really see what matters in life.
