When you turn away from your sin and toward God, you are forgiven immediately. That doesn't mean that everything is fixed. Your broken relationship with God is restored, but you may have left a lot of damage in your personal world. That takes time to fix.
God had people like Jeremiah to write His Word down for everyone to prosper. We all have been warned. We all know what God's standards are, even if we may not like them. We all know how we can prosper if we are willing to sacrifice everything. His discipline is just and that there is a time frame (it won't last forever). Through all this we know that God loves us. This knowledge and understanding is the beginning of hope in the promise of restoration.
Out of great suffering from Jesus came our salvation. We don't necessarily have to suffer as much as He did. He gave us the ability to live life in spiritual peace and eternal security. We may not be able to control the chaos happening around us, but we can control our faith and walk with the Holy Spirit for continual healing.
The wounds that sin leaves are incurable and severe without God. Without Him, they do lead to eternal death. He can restore your soul, health, wealth, and anything else that you may have destroyed. God cares about the outcast. You will not find any medicine, doctor, or lover to heal your soul. God is the only source of restoration.
When you accept this, then you can start having thanksgiving in the hard times. Trust that God will punish the oppressors, tyrants, and salvage people in the world. The storms in life will stop. Your land or nation can be restored. Be His and He will be yours.. Reject Him and His anger will burn until His purpose is fulfilled. Understanding will come in time.
