Encouraging Promise

God had Haggai go speak to Zerubabbel and Joshua, then the remnant on the last day of the Feast of Shelters in 520 BC.  Many people believed that their hard work would not compare the original temple.  God ordered them to be strong in their commitment to do His work.  They still had work left to do to glorify God.
God had promised them His spirit, so there was no reason to be afraid.  God would provide all that they needed to complete the project that would fulfill Ezra's prophecy in the 6th chapter.  God was coming and when He arrives no one can miss it.  He would return to His temple.  Treasures would be restored.  The nation would experience His glory.  His final glory would be greater than the first.  With this glory came His peace.
Two months later God came to Haggai again about the priest that were ruling.  They had been rebuilding the temple for three months.  It was about defilement and the ability to transfer holiness.  Everyone has been defiled and holiness cannot be given to the defiled, but defilement can be shared and spread.  All of our best efforts don't change that fact.
Once you become aware of the fact, then what are you supposed to do?  Will all your work be for nothing?  You have submit and repent to God for forgiveness.  Then you have to be careful to live a consecrated life to receive life's blessings.  This led to revival in the land.
Later that same month God came to Haggai again to inform them that the Gentile kingdoms would be overturned and destroyed.  Zerubabbel, who was discouraged, would get a signet ring from God for being a faithful servant.  It was God's promise giving him legitimacy.  This gave hope.
