God came to Zechariah around 518 BC, when He was angry with His people. Zechariah's ministry was at the same time as Haggai, both vital but different. Zechariah's ministry was a call to repentance and to return to God. If the people refused to listen, then they would end up like their forefathers.
God emphasized the mission by giving Zechariah night visions that are similar to Revelations. He had eight visions in one night, back to back. Today we will discuss the first two.
Zechariah's first vision God's angel was his guide. In the vision there was of a man riding a chestnut horse. He stood among the myrtle trees. Behind the man was a red, brown, and white horse. They were angels sent by God to patrol the world. God withheld mercy for 70 years because He is jealous for His people, but also angry when His people turn from Him. When God returned His mercy, they would return to Jerusalem where His home would be rebuilt within. There prosperity will overflow in all sorts of forms.
In the second vision there were four horns that were meant to scatter God's chosen people. Then there were four craftsmen were sent to terrify them enforcing the people would not return to the promised land. They were cut off from God's nation. It all shows how much God is in control.
