Paul knew the Bible. He knew how to argue. There was no one better to defend himself and his faith when in court.
He had been arrested and threatened and hidden from the Jews. Five days after his escape Ananias finally knew where he was and went to bring official charges against Paul to Felix. Now the trail on faith and truth could begin. It has only been 12 days since Paul had returned to Jerusalem.
Paul was accused of being a trouble maker that stirred up riots. He defended himself eloquently and honestly. If they wanted him executed, then they should never have allowed him to defend himself. It was his second Apologetic defense and was victorious over both.
Felix spend several days thinking it over. He was aware of "The Way" and found it interesting. He had a centurion keep guard over him, but he was allowed to have the freedom of anyone he wanted to see to be allowed to visit. It was almost like he was not in prison at all. He wasn't in a dungeon starving and freezing to death at least.
Several days later Felix returnedwith his Jewish wife, Drusilla. They wanted to listen to him in private. Over the months that Paul stayed in Herod's Palace, Felix came to visit many times. He always afraid of Paul, but hoped for a bribe to get Paul out of prison. Paul knew that he was there for a reason. He just kept talking to the governor for two years. When Felix lost his position for mismanagement, he was replaced by Porcius Festus.
