Church Position

 

    We know the position of the Pastor or Preacher of a church.  It has been laid out throughout the Bible.  It is easy to understand their responsibility to lead the church through humble service to be closer to God.  However, there are positions of leadership in the church to support the Pastor.  The main position is the Deacon or Overseer.  They are the right hand of the Pastor.  They represent the Pastor when he is not present.

    Being an overseer of the church is a noble task, but also holds a higher level of accountability.  The overseer is an elder of the church.  He is required to only have one wife, if married.  Their wife is an extension of them, so the wife has the responsibilities to support her husband and hold the same qualities.  He should be able to manage his own household before expected to manage the church.  That means that with his wife, he raises his children with dignity.

    The Overseer is required to be of good temperament, self-controlled, respected, hospitable, and a teacher.  He is not to be a drunk which means that he understands balance and will not give power over to substances like alcohol.  He is not to be violent, quarrelsome, or greedy.  Instead he should be gentle.  A man with a bad reputation cannot bring grace to the church because he represents the devil in the world's perspective.  He would bring disgrace to the church.

    The Deacon has a leadership position in the church is required to be a mature Christian who seeks God everyday.  His faith never stops growing.  A Deacon must be respected or the whole church will suffer.  He must be sincere by living a transparent life with integrity.  Honesty is vital.  A Deacon holds onto their faith.  They have been tested and tried to come out stronger in their faith.  He holds the same kind of qualities as the overseer.  

    The Deacon can not be a hypocrite.  He has to be be able to live with a clear conscience otherwise the guilt would hinder any good work he wants to accomplish.  He needs to live a blameless lifestyle along with his entire household (family).  With the support of his Godly family, a Deacon will live out his life boldly for Jesus.  Their character and ministry has been proven.

     The church is a living spiritual unit.  The people have to be united for them to have any impact in the world around them.  If the church is not united, then the cause needs to be discovered sooner rather than later and removed.  The church is the representation of truth to the world.  If the world can't see the truth, then the church is dead.  It is the responsibility of every Christian to spread Jesus' truth throughout the world.  That means we are all responsible for the health of our church.
