To sanctify your thoughts you have to clean up your spirit a little. It starts with salvation, then it goes to what you listen to, watch, and surround yourself with. It really becomes a part of you when you hear the Holy Spirit nudge you about some things and you act on it without hesitation. Thought sanctification is having your desires become holy.
When you read God's Word it indwells in you. That is why we need to feed our soul in God's Word every day. Our soul needs to be fed just as much, if not more, than our body. We need to attend a local church to be involved in the Christian community in obedience to God's Word and to find fellowship and corporate worship. However, if you rely on church to have worship, then you are missing out throughout the week. You should be able to worship in all that you do.
The closer you get to God the more sensitive you become to sin and what it does to you and the people you love. You want to get away from it or destroy it. You are able to see the need for change more clearly.
This is why we need to sanctify our thoughts. Our thoughts is what drives our words and our actions. We can't be sanctified if you are not in God's Word. It teaches us. It gives our heart song. It gives us correction. It provides wisdom. It enriches the spirit in your soul. This sanctification protects you through thanksgiving, good changes in your life, and purity of thoughts.
We have been commanded to take captive all our thoughts. That means that we can no longer feed the evil, negative thoughts that go against God's design for you. We need to put our mind on what is holy, pure, and good. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to use God's Word to give our thoughts wisdom and morality.
We can not change the law of God. We can fight it and reap the consequences or we can accept and submit. If you choose the later, then the benefits are life changing. If you don't want your life to change, then stay right where you are. Life will change around you until you are ready to move.
You are the product your life. That means that your mind and where you allow your thoughts to take you will directly impact what kind of life you live. This is a lifetime journey. If you have been lost in the negative or evil thought process your whole life, then it will take time to get out. Give it to God and allow Him to work on your mind and help remind you when you are slipping into bad habits.
You are influenced by what you listen to, who you allow in your life, and the world around you. You can't avoid that. You can just chose to compare what you are impacted with to God's Word and chose what you want to do with that. God can transform your mind (no matter how twisted it may be) to be sanctified. You just have to allow Him by denying the world the satisfaction of corrupting your mind more.
The Holy Spirit can change how you think to be faith based instead of stuck in right now. The more you conform to God's will for your life the more sanctified you are becoming. Fill yourself with the truth, so that you can be strong in the mind frame of obedience. Ask God to bring you closer to Him and mean it. Chose His enlightenment over the darkness of the world's thought process.
You are where you are today because of your thought process. You can always change it if you don't like it. You are either a weapon for God or an obstacle that keeps people from God. If you are the later, then you will be humbled. It is best to choose to be righteous and holy in honor of God.
