The Bible is a record of God's creation, love, promises, curses, and expectations. God is the original maker. He created method by turning nothing into something living. He has a message about the trinity. He gave all this to different men throughout history to record and eventually come together to make one book.
When God speaks it happens. If He make a promise, then it will be fulfilled. He does not lie. He does not sin. He does not manipulate. He is love in the purest form. You have to go to Him in faith to start really understanding that truth.
All the bad things that happened to you in your life is because we live in a fallen world. This world is corrupted by sin. That is not God's fault. He had created a perfect world. People are the ones that ruined that, so you can't blame God for what has gone wrong in your life. Some of it is because of Satan, some life, and some fall on your choices.
When the world was perfect, God walked with Adam and Eve. God separated Himself from people because He can't be in the presence of evil. If people embrace evil, then they are pushing God away. It is not God pushing you away. It is Him turning away from evil that has a hold on you. If you choose evil, then you are hurting God. It makes Him sad and angry when you reject Him and embrace evil.
The problem in Genesis is the problem God has with humanity. Life is easy when you leave God out of it because you make yourself your own god. The down side to that is that eternity will be hard. Life following God is not easy, but He is with you helping and protecting you. You get eternity of easy for a little discomfort or pain now.
When it comes to living your life, you don't need a lot of history books, science, or anything else. You only need the Bible. God backs up everything He does and says and you find that in His Word. History, science, and other books just help us understand how humanity and life work without Him. Without God creation, life, and history is all meaningless.
