Yahweh Magen

 

    Yahweh Magen (Yah-way mah-GEN) also called Jehovah Magen is יְהוָה מָגֵן in Hebrew.  It means "the Lord is my Shield" or "the Lord my Protector".  Magen means shields, covering, buckler, or defensive armor.  The name appears 63 times in the Hebrew Bible.  God gave Himself this name when talking to Abram so that he would not be afraid to do what God was asking him to do. 

    The name  Yahweh Magen references God's battle stance to protect His people.  He is your defender and constant protector that stands between you and all the evil that could happen to you.  He is not afraid or intimidated by battle.  You can trust Him to be there in times of trouble.  He will be close and His armor is strong.  This name requires trust while remembering God's promises to be encouraged.  Trusting in God in hard times will lead to reward.

    Give your stressors, anxiety, and worry over to God.  You can battle them by looking at all the good that He does in your life and all the gifts that He has given you, but you can't stop them completely on your own.  You need Yahweh Magen to protect your mind and spirit.  Without Him you will be depleted by what it cost you mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.  It will eventually affect you physically, but you don't have to go down that path.  Give it to God as it comes upon you.  Rest in your hope of salvation here and now, not just for eternity.

    When you pray using the name Yahweh Magen you are seeking personal coverage from evil.  The battle is more than you can take on yourself.  You may have people that support you and prayer partners, but they still do not compare to what God can do.  Lean on them, but rely on God to handle the battle.  You cannot do spiritual warfare without God.  If it is a trial, then ask Him to reveal the truths that you need to see.  If it is tribulation, then ask for protection to get through unscathed.
