The law only holds power while you are alive. After death, our soul will be free to spend eternity according to where we end up. Marriage is a lawful covenant between a man, a woman, and God. Once one person dies, the law of marriage has ended. The survivor can feel free to get remarried with no guilt. Until then, a woman is legally bound to her husband.
The law of divorce is a little different. It is where one or both people decided to break the law of marriage. The results are major soul wounds that can take years to heal. A divorced person does not have the right to get remarried depending on the circumstances of the divorce. If it is just because they were bored or it was too hard, then they never need to remarry. If the woman remarries before the first husband is dead, then she becomes an adulteress. If the divorce was to protect themselves physically or emotionally due to chronic adulatory, then they have the right to remarry. However, they need to deal with the soul wound first. When the divorced spouse dies, then remarriage is a non-issue.
As Christians we are under the law of not being ruled by our passions. That does not mean that we need to kill our passions. We need to identify where our weakness is with relationships and protect ourselves prayerfully to keep the relationships Holy. We serve with Holy Spirit, not the spirit of the flesh.
Romans 7: 1-6
