Leadership Duty

Before taking on a position of leadership, pray over it and think about what you really want in life.  It is not about a pay raise, prestige, or social acceptance.  The life of a leader is a life of service to other people.  You always have to put others before your own wants and desires.  If you want your life to be about you, then stay in the lower positions.  You can live how you want there.
Aaron was the spiritual leader for all  tribes.  Each tribal leader had a staff of leadership.  He had a special staff that budded into flowers that produced almonds.  It became a sign to all the rebellious people to fear death.  No one but the Levites could ever enter God's sanctuary.
Aaron and his sons together were responsible for all the Levites.  It was a high pressure position because their very lives were at stake.  If the people sinned, then they stood between the people and God.  On top of that they were responsible for keeping all the Levites in line and living with integrity.
It was a serious position because the Levites did not earn their own food or harvest it.  They got their food from a portion of the sacrifices.  That meant that they lived off of a 10th of what others gave to God.  It would be easy to take advantage and take what they wanted, but God would always knows.
When they got to the promised land, the Levites would not receive land, but live among the different tribes accepting what they got along the way.  They had to trust God to provide.  They were to make sure the best was always presented to God and they got what was left over.  They were to live a holy life that demonstrated respect for God.
