Law of Marriage Part 2

 

    Marriage is complicated.  Today it has become confusing because people do not understand the special purpose of it, the work it requires, and that it is not a contract but a covenant.  Marriage is not something to enter into without serious consideration.  It is a life commitment to another person.  God allows us to terminate marriage because of the side affects of the fallen world, but there are always life long consequences.

    Men are held responsible for the health of the marriage.  They are the leaders, the strength, and head of the family.  He can chose to break the family and divorce his wife.  She can go and remarry another man, but he cannot change his mind and try to remarry her.  He caused her harm and hurt her reputation.  He can't just decide he made a mistake.  What was wrong with the marriage in the first place has not changed.  If he does remarry her, then God considers that marriage defiled.

    I heard this recently and really like it: God can't bless a mess.  If we go around pretending God is not there and make a mess out of our lives and marriage, then we can't expect God to swoop in and make everything better.  We have to do our part.  That includes the decisions you make in your life.  

    A soldier should get a year from the battlefield after he gets married.  It is a gift to his wife and possible family.  The first year is hard, so working things out is vital. You can't do that when your not even in the same city ,state, or country.  

    There are laws about taking a man's livelihood.  That is why thieves were put to death.  Imagine if we did that now.  I bet crime would go down a whole lot.  Marriage is a way to protect women from being vulnerable to crimes like that.

    Marriage should protect people from disease.  If you wait to have any sexually related relations until you are married, then you never have to have that awkward conversation about the past.  You will have confidence and more comfort to explore your sexual side.  You never have to worry about an STD.

    Marriage should protect your finances, especially now: two incomes versus one.  Work together instead of against each other for the future.  Pay your loans together.  Work hard at your job for each other.  It help with the stress.  Men take care and protect your woman.  In return she will do all she can to give you a good and happy home.
