When King Ahab died, his son Joram became the next corrupt king. He reigned 12 years doing evil in God's eyes. He clung to sin instead of turning to God, but went through the motions to look good.
He went to fight King Mesha of Moab and asked Judah and Edom to help. King Jehoshaphat of Judah and King of Edom agreed for their alliance. Together they marched for seven days with no water. They were so weak and dehydrated that if they met their enemy, then they would have been butchered. Ling Jehoshaphat decided that they needed to seek out Elisha.
Elisha told them how to get water, so they dug ditches that God filled with water. There was no rain or wind. It was supernatural. When the Moab's approached and saw the water it looked like blood because of their angle. They thought that the three kings had fought each other and it was over.
The Moabites let their guard down and when they did the Hebrews attached. The Moabites were slaughtered even thought they had had the advantage. The Hebrews went from city to city throwing stones and stopping up the water.
When King Mesha saw the battle at this doorstep he had 700 swordsmen to protect him while he went and sacrificed his firstborn son. Talk about a way to make God mad. What kind of leader or father would do such a thing.
