Today is the continuation of the summary of Solomon's verses to philosophically evaluate life. This chapter has 33 verses (each its own proverb). They are based on how your think and speak. When do you need to hold your tongue and when do you need to speak? When you speak, what is appropriate in the moment? These are things that we all need to think about and apply to our daily lives.
A wise person does not use harsh words, but tries to calm people. A gentle tongue will turn away anger. Harsh words wound people. You control your tongue. You can crush people with it or you can lift a broken spirit. Use your knowledge to command your tongue and keep you away from folly. Speak wisely and it makes understanding appealing.
God hears everything, even the words that you do not speak out loud. It is wise to watch over wicked thoughts that would eventually leak out into your vocabulary. Feed your mind with good and positive things, so that your words will reflect it. Pursue life giving wisdom.
Be prudent in your self-discipline. Listen to constructive correction. When you master those, then prayerfully spread what you have learned. Prayerfully pursue righteousness, so that you do not stray and require stern discipline. Righteousness leads to a happy heart that brings forth smiles from other people. A broken heart has a crushed spirit which can fall into folly easily because it is trying to escape its oppression.
A wise voice is patient and avoids dissension. To be wise you must seek wise counsel. Only then will you truly succeed in your goals. Think before you speak to make sure that your words are wisely used and will be appealing to God's ears. it avoids conflict and can resolve issues. The path is clear, so that the person will not stumble as it heads toward heaven.
God will listen for the righteous prayer, so if you need help with using your words pray over them before you speak. It makes Him happy when we speak purely and bring cheer to other people. It may require humility, but it brings honor with understanding.
