Prophecies Against Nations Part 4

Today we are focusing on the prophecy against Moab.  God told Jeremiah that Moab would be disgraced and ruined before they were silenced by violent deaths.  They would live in dismay as calamity came quickly.   They were judged for their pride and conceit that broke them.  The nation shattered because there was no escape.  This happened around 580 BC.
Moab was cursed for doing God's work deceitfully and doing business through bloodshed.  They were descendants from Lot's incestuous relationship with his older daughter.  When the Jews entered the promised land, their land belonged to Reuben and Gad's ancestors.  It was good fertile land that got fought over.  Part of the judgment was that the land itself was ruined, but would eventually be restored.  However, some towns and cities were never restored.
Moab's complacency was not acceptable to God, so he made sure that they felt shame.  Surrounding nations watching would mourn for them as they observed it's destruction.  They laughed as Israel was judged.  They believed themselves stronger than God's people, but it was all an allusion.  What happened to them made the hearts of others mourn, but restoration would come.
