Hosea (Hosea 6) and Zephaniah call their people to repent. The job of prophets is calling people to repent, but the message comes out differently depending on the prophet and whom they are preaching to. It proves that God is trying to give everyone time before He makes His move.
Zephaniah was warning Judah about the great Day of the Lord. He knew that the only salvation they would get would be through repentance. Repentance may not save their lives, but it would save their souls. God is patient, but eventually He does act on what He has warned. Every generation needs to be prepared.
Zephaniah gathered God's people and informed them that God would only hear from the humble. He instructed them on how to seek righteousness and humility. Then he warned them about how the cities would be abandoned and destroyed. However, God would restore those whom He chooses: Physically and/or Spiritually.
Pride will always be punished. The proud cities would be impacted the most. They will be the first to fall as a warning and inforcement of judgment. When it comes to God's judgment, no place is safe. The only safety you can have is to repent your sins and turn to God for eternal security.
