When Zechariah was a prophet of God, Joshua was the high priest. He was the first high priest since the exile. In Zechariah's vision on the leader was of an angel standing before Joshua and Satan stood to his right.
God rebuked Satan for trying to take Joshua's light. Joshua stood there in filthy rags, so the angel ordered Joshua wash and change into something nice, clean, and appropriate for his leadership position. He stood for all his people. They were forgiven and the priesthood restored.
Joshua was to be rewarded for following God. A stone with seven eyes that was set before Joshua. It had an inscription engraved saying God would remove the land's sin in a single day. That day the leaders that follow God in obedience would be sitting in peace in Heaven. They would have access to God's presence.
